L.A. Confidential

They wuz robbed.

It’s one of the biggest Oscar screw-ups, one I’ll never forgive.

Somehow, the mediocre (at best) Titanic sailed off with 11 little gold men in 1998, while this note-perfect ode to film noir had to settle for just two trophies.

L.A. Confidential has everything — a crackling, twisty story, powerhouse performances from a cast of old pros and fast-rising stars, and style to spare.

Not afraid to let its characters show shades of grey, this tale of corruption, murder, and double-dealing can stand with the best film noirs from the golden age when Bogart and Mitchum back-handed fools.

High praise.
