Heisser Sommer

Surf’s up behind the Iron Curtain.

The Berlin Wall loomed large in 1968, but that didn’t stop East Germany from jumping on the American bandwagon and making its own version of beach party movies.

Eternally bouncy, good-natured Chris Doerk was her country’s answer to Annette Funicello, and she easily swipes the camera’s attention every time she bursts into song.

The plot? Well, there ain’t much of it, but that’s par for the course.

You got your girls, and your guys, and some light shenanigans, all set to boppy (and, sometimes, subtitled) music.

It’s fun in the sun, old-school Commie style.
