“Ya fuchin’ bastards!”
While this is a light, frothy rom-com with a great leading performance from Janeane Garofalo, my enduring memory is of an old man chucking rocks at anyone who tries to invade his small Irish island.
His thick accent put a spin on what would otherwise be a harsh profanity, and I remember us latching on to the phrase as we worked behind the counter at Videoville.
That way, we could good-naturedly verbally abuse each other, while not totally cheesin’ off any profanity-averse customers.
Oh, and the movie? Highly enjoyable, and Garofalo is a deadpan rock star.
