Ichi the Killer

How’s your tolerance for the ol’ ultra-violence?

With the screen smeared in fluids of every kind, this Takashi Miike joint was one of the harshest films to hang out in Videoville’s foreign film collection, right up there with Suicide Club and Irréversible.

Our “hero” is a heavily-damaged killing machine, a repressed, psychotic madman who inflicts heavy pain on himself when he’s not freakin’ out the supposedly battle-hardened Yakuza.

Banned in several countries (yet available in Coupeville back in the day!), this was probably proof I sometimes spent Miriam’s money in … unconvential … ways.

I did it all for the shudders.
