Sergio Leone meets Walt Disney.

Taking animation into the Wild West, director Gore Verbinski and Paramount Pictures won an Oscar for Best Animated Picture.

And they did it by making a film far-more inventive and funny than anything the House of Mouse or Pixar were producing that year.

Our (frequently trembling) hero is a pampered chameleon voiced by Johnny Depp, who staggers into a lawless town with absolutely no plans to clean it up.

But fate has other plans, and soon Rango is wearing a sheriff’s badge and makin’ time with Isla Fisher’s slightly-batty iguana.

Clint Eastwood would approve.
