Porco Rosso

When pigs fly.

Well, that would be now, as Hayao Miyazaki’s rip-snorting tale of air pilots and bounty hunters battling in the skies above post-WW1 Italy unfurls.

Our hero (dubbed by Michael Keaton) is a devil-may-care fighter ace, who just happens to have been transformed into a pig by a curse.

What, that old plot again??

I kid, I kid, as this always-inventive tale is a superb mix of swashbuckling adventure and melancholy romance, spiked with a lively sense of humor.

It may not get mentioned as much as Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke, but it’s a winner.
